The Last Week

A fairly even week. We saw offered prices fall marginally last Friday as the index opened at 68.1 down 0.22 NOK or -0.32% from last weeks close Thursday despite a lot of noise of strong volumes and lower prices. Monday edged 1 NOK lower which was the low of the week at 67.15 and then it was perhaps surprisingly up-hill from there. We saw Tuesday up small, Wednesday up a NOK to 68.32 and close out on Thursday the offered index ended up nearly a NOK higher to end the week slightly more firmly at 69.25.

The FX rate saw a one way movement as the oil prices dropped. We saw the rate rise from 10.825 last Thursday to 10.98 by Thursday in a pretty linear progression. The effect of this was to keep the index euro level at flat for the week at 6.31

Average spreads 3-6 closed at a little over 2 NOK having widened since last week, but some variability during the week.

Next Week

Indications for next week are coming in at around offered 68.8 NOK Friday offered levels for the index, which a little lower than the Thursday close yesterday of 69.25. There are no dramatic reports of swings either way currently.

Spreads are wider around 3.5 NOK between 3-6s, 5-6s at a premium.

The EUR NOK FX rate this afternoon has crept up further to 11.00 level having come off its earlier highs of 11.06 earlier today. This makes the price in Euro’s around 6.25 FCA Oslo this afternoon.

FAQ’s

Q. How can I optimise my sales in weeks where there may be more volume coming through?

A. Active engagement with as many counterparties as possible will help with distribution. Widening global reach would also help with this, especially if the softness is within a particular market, and funnel volume elsewhere. Proactive updating of pricing and offers will create a sense of movement in the market and spur activity, as well as targeted pricing by clients or geography. Encourage engagement with dialogue on chat and market updates and even get buyers to put up bids to you help build a better market picture.
