The Last Week

A full trading week with prices overall lower. Easter over and we saw the continued reduction in prices early last week, off 4 NOK on the Friday open nearly 5% at 76.86 levels. Significant weakness continued into Monday down a further 4+ NOK to 72.58 and we hit the low of the week on Tuesday at just under 72 for the offered index. However, things turned around for Wednesday at 72.64 and finished stronger at 74.3 the chart showing a definite bottom during the week.

The FX rate was again less volatile this week with trend level and down from 11.12 levels to 11.06 on Thursday pricing.

Spreads tightened to around 1.5 NOK 3-6s and consistently spread, if opening to 2 on the close, but tighter than last week.

Next Week

Early indications for next week are coming in at the 74.4 NOK level for the index, pretty much flat from the close of the week yesterday of 74.3, and below the prior levels of 76.86 this time last week. There is softness in the market but no dramatic price movements. Bigger fish continue to be more available and flights remain costly. Barcelona will make price discovery more of a challenge.

The EUR NOK FX rate is this afternoon is around the 11.08 level having rebounded off its low of 11.01 level earlier today as suggestions that the Strait of Hormuz Straight looks to be open for the ceasefire period.

This makes the price in Euro’s around 6.71 FCA Oslo this afternoon.

Volumes – Fresh Export

FAQ’s

Q. Does salmon trade like other commodities?

A. The salmon market trades fundamentally like every other commodity market. We have seen and continue to see significant volatility in many agricultural commodities.
